Approximately 5,000 veterans who have served in the Indian Wars, American Civil War, World War I & II, Korean War, and the Vietnam War, now lay to rest in the Custer National Cemetery, located on the grounds of Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument. To honor the fallen service members for Memorial Day, volunteers will place American flags at each of the 5,000 headstones in the Custer National Cemetery the week before.

Moral injury can result from actions taken, not taken, or witnessed that conflict with deeply held values, and it is not the same as PTSD. These retreats provide a safe space for veterans to process experiences related to guilt, grief, shame, anxiety, depression, relationship struggles, and other challenges that can follow military service.
