DREAM Adaptive Recreation is offering an exciting, no-cost 3-Day Intro to Kayaking on the scenic Flathead River, taking place July 14–16 and August 18–20. Participants can choose between morning (9am–2pm) or afternoon (3pm–8pm) sessions, with all instruction provided by the Montana Kayak Academy. This immersive course is ideal for anyone interested in learning whitewater kayaking, and all course and equipment costs are fully covered.
The Unattended Veterans Ceremony will take place on Wednesday, July 16, at 12:00 PM at Yellowstone National Cemetery. This solemn event ensures that no veteran is forgotten, honoring those who have passed without family or loved ones. The ceremony includes a formal posting and retiring of the colors, a reading of veteran names, prayers, and a respectful transport of urns to the columbarium. Volunteers from local veteran organizations will participate, and the public is invited to pay their respects.

Rev up your engines for the SW Montana Veterans Poker Run on Saturday, August 23, 2025—open to bikes, trucks, hot rods, and all vehicles! The ride starts in Deer Lodge at 9:30 a.m., with kickstands up at 10:30 a.m. Riders will visit five stops and return by 5:00 p.m., with winners announced at 5:30 p.m. After the ride, enjoy a community BBQ, live music by Dan Henry, raffles, a silent auction, and family fun—including a bounce house! Dinner is $15/plate ($10 for kids) at the Tri-County Fairgrounds. Bring a lawn chair and join the fun!
Get ready for the 7th annual Food Truck Battle on the Yellowstone, happening Saturday, August 23rd, at the Armed Forces Reserve Center! Over 50 food trucks will compete for top honors, alongside cold beer, live music all day, and a family-friendly area with free kids' activities. All proceeds—10% of food truck sales, and 100% of beer and gate profits—will support veterans. Admission is just $5, with free entry for kids under 12, veterans, and active military with ID. The Northern Hills Veterans Appreciation Fair is taking place on Saturday, November 8, at the Sturgis Community Center. Guest registration begins at 10:30 a.m., with an opening ceremony at 11:00 a.m. in the auditorium. This free event welcomes all veterans and their families to connect with vital services and enjoy a day of support and appreciation. From Veterans Service Officers (VSOs) and VA services to outdoor recreation, service dogs, employment assistance, housing support, education, and a flu clinic, there’s something for everyone. Lunch and refreshments are included, and the event runs until 2:00 p.m.

The VA is hosting a PACT Act Claims Clinic on June 13, 2025 at the Naval Reserve Center in Fort Harrison. This event is designed to raise awareness and help veterans better understand their benefits under the PACT Act. The American Legion of Montana Boys State and the American Legion of Montana Auxiliary Girls State are immersive, weeklong programs designed for high school juniors to learn about government, leadership, and citizenship. Held annually at Carroll College in Helena, the 2025 sessions will take place from June 8–14. Participants will gain hands-on experience by forming mock governments, running for office, and passing legislation. This unique opportunity, valued at $300, is fully covered by local American Legion Posts and Auxiliary Units across the state, making it a cost-free experience for delegates.

Veterans who are struggling with the invisible wounds of war are invited to a free, three-day retreat at Grouse Mountain Lodge in Whitefish, focused on healing from moral injury — an emotional and spiritual trauma that can result from experiences during service that conflict with deeply held values. Hosted by VOA Northern Rockies, the Moral Injury: Healing Wounded Souls Retreat offers a safe, supportive environment for veterans to explore and begin healing from feelings of shame, guilt, depression, anxiety, relationship struggles, substance use, and even thoughts of suicide.
